Fish Cakes


In the Magdalen Islands, these cakes are usually made with leftover fish or whatever is on hand. It's an inexpensive everyday dish. You could even use canned fish. On the other hand, you can serve these fish cakes for company by using one part fish, one part potatoes, including salmon or crab, and replacing the onion with chopped green onion or chives.

Ingredients :

  • Allow 750 ml (3 cups) mashed potatoes
  • for 250 ml (1 cup) cooked flaked fish (cod, sole, salmon or tuna)
  • Salt and pepper
  • Finely chopped onion
  • Flour or breadcrumbs
  • Butter
